Transjön is the largest lake in Torsås municipality. A beautiful excursion with a fire place close by.

Transjön border the villages Torhult, Skruvemåla, Lövsmåla, Kringlemåla and Troxhult. The length of the lake is about 1000 meter and has a width of about 300 meter, where the lake is at its widest. During the 1940s the lake were full of fish with several different species such as perch, pike, burbot, eel and roach which back in the days could be fished up by nets, fyke net or fishing pole. Unfortunately the lake, as many other Swedish lakes, was affected by the acidification that took off in the 1990s. Since that event the fish population has reduced in Transjön. During the 1970-1980´s the lake was alomost completely without life. The pH-levels was then way too low for the fish to survive. But after repeated liming in recent years, life has returned to the lake again, which is very pleasing. Even if the fish habitat is on way up again, it is strictly prohibited to fish in this lake.

In the lake ducks are nesting and even seagull each year. Swans can be seen here, in spring and autumn, to rest for a few days on their journeys to and from their breeding grounds far north.

It's easy to get to the lake by car or bus. Parish meeting and a local historical society has together created a nice picnic area down by the lake's southern end, with a shelter, benches and a barbecue device. The views from here on a summer day, or anytime, is well worth a visit.
